henriHenri, my faithful walking partner and companion is on vacation without me. It’s very quiet here without him, so I am listening to my playlist more than I normally do.   All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor is a catchy tune that tells the story of a girl who is not a size 2 and not shaped like a Barbie doll! Rather, the lyrics proclaim, she’s bigger, has more “booty” than Barbie and is therefore, in her opinion, more appealing to most guys than a skinny girl.

As a stager, when I hear All About That Bass, I modify the lyrics to All About That Space! Because, just like in the lyrics suggest about the girl, most potential buyers find bigger spaces more appealing than smaller spaces.

And that is one of the most important things that staging your home or vacation condo can do — help potential buyers see the space as bigger and more appealing. How does staging do this?

  • Selection and use of appropriately proportioned furnishings and accessories.
  • Arrangement of furnishings to enhance traffic patterns in the space.
  • Color palate.
  • De-cluttering the space by removing items (household goods, furniture, accessories, toys, etc.) that distract potential buyers.

USA TODAY published an article Sunday, April 26th, 2015 entitled Mistakes people make when selling a home. The second mistake listed was “not making your home look its best.” “We’ve all watched enough HGTV shows to know that good staging and curb appeal help to sell homes.” RESA, the Real Estate Staging Association (of which I’m a member) states in that same USA TODAY article, that professionally staged homes can sell five to seven times faster than non-staged homes. – Of course, the other four mistakes –not being realistic about your home’s value, refusing to negotiate, hiding the truth about your home, and not having a back-up plan, also impact how quickly your home will sell. However, making your home look its best (i.e. staging) matters.

So, if you are thinking of selling your home or vacation condo, next time you hear All About That Bass I hope you modify the lyrics to All About That Space, and give me a call. I would love to help you get your space ready to sell quickly and for top dollar!

Until next time…
